After 10 incredible years, Plant Faced Clothing is closing down.
This is a really difficult post to write.
Plant Faced started ten years ago with a very simple idea: create clothes that could help people wear their values, challenge the way animals are treated, and show that vegan fashion could be ethical, sustainable and genuinely cool.
I was much younger when I started it, and honestly, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing.
In the beginning, I was screenprinting t-shirts by hand in my sharehouse kitchen, with a whole lot of trial and error. There was no big plan, no team and certainly no roadmap for how to build a clothing brand. Just a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of late nights, and a belief that there was something worth creating.
Somehow, that little kitchen project became Plant Faced Clothing.
And now, ten years later, it is incredibly strange to be writing that this is where the journey ends.
A lot can happen in 10 years
There have been some amazing highs.
We watched people all over the world wear Plant Faced. We sent our clothes to people we would never have believed we could (Miley Cyrus, Moby, even the rapper Chingy!). We got to work with incredible retailers and organisations, meet so many wonderful people in the vegan community, attend events and festivals around the world, and see our little designs become part of people's lives.
We've had customers come back year after year. We've had people tell us that a particular Plant Faced shirt was the thing that helped start a conversation with a friend, or that they discovered veganism through the message on one of our designs.
Those moments have meant more than I can really put into words.
But there have also been plenty of lows.
Running a small independent clothing business is incredibly hard. And over the last few years, it has become increasingly difficult to make Plant Faced work, both financially and personally.
The world of independent and vegan fashion has changed enormously. Costs have risen, the retail landscape has shifted, and running a small brand has become more challenging in so many ways.
At the same time, I've had to be honest with myself about what continuing to run the business was costing me personally.
I've probably kept going longer than I should have.
Partly because I didn't want to give up.
Partly because I felt responsible to everyone who had supported us.
Partly because I had made some mistakes over the years in ordering too much inventory!
And partly because when you've spent ten years building something, it's incredibly difficult to imagine letting it go.
But after a lot of thinking, and a very long and difficult decision-making process, I've realised that the time has come to close this chapter.
And although there is sadness in that, there is also a sense of relief.
I think it's time to take some space, reset, and eventually come back to creating something new with the same energy and passion that started Plant Faced in the first place.
One final chapter
Plant Faced isn't disappearing overnight.
Before I officially close the doors, there's one final chapter - and this is where I really need your help.
We still have a substantial amount of inventory left, and we'd much rather see those clothes being worn and loved than sitting in storage.
So we're launching our final clearance sale, with 40-80% off all remaining stock.
If you've ever had your eye on something from Plant Faced, now is the time.
And if you've supported us before, this is one last opportunity to support the brand and help us bring this chapter to a proper close.
Whether you've bought something, worn one of our pieces until it was falling apart, shared a post, recommended us to a friend, stocked us in your store, attended an event, or simply believed in what we were trying to do - thank you.
We genuinely couldn't have made it this far without you.
Please give our clothes a good home
Once something sells out, it will be gone for good.
We have particularly large quantities of some hoodies, sweaters and socks, so if you've ever wanted to stock up, this is definitely the time.
And yes, even if it's currently summer where you are, we highly recommend thinking ahead. Those cosy layers will come in handy eventually.
We're not sure exactly how long the website will remain open. It could be days, weeks or potentially a few months, depending on how quickly everything sells through.
But once the remaining stock is gone, that's it.
There won't be another production run.
To everyone who supported Plant Faced
This is the part that's hardest to write.
Thank you.
Thank you to every single person who bought something from us over the last ten years.
Thank you to everyone who shared our posts, tagged us in photos, told their friends about us, stocked our clothes, came to see us at events, or simply followed along.
Thank you to the people who were there right at the beginning, when Plant Faced was literally being printed in a kitchen, and to those who discovered us much more recently.
Thank you for believing that what we were doing was worth supporting.
A small independent brand doesn't exist without its community. Every order, every share, every recommendation and every kind message made a difference.
You've helped turn what started as one person's slightly chaotic idea into something that has reached people far beyond what I ever imagined when I started.
That is something I'll always be incredibly proud of.
This isn't necessarily goodbye
While Plant Faced Clothing is closing, I don't think this is the end of the story.
I'm going to take a little time to step back and work out what's next.
And if you've been following Plant Faced for a while, you'll know I'm not very good at sitting still for long.
I have some ideas.
I'm not quite ready to reveal exactly what they are yet, but I'm thinking about ways to repurpose this community and turn our social accounts and the Plant Faced brand we've built together into something new within the vegan space.
Maybe something food-related.
Maybe something completely different.
Either way, don't unfollow just yet.
There are some things I'm really excited about dreaming up, and I'd love for you to come along for whatever comes next.
We may also be taking Plant Faced on the road one last time, with some potential vegan festivals and a final pop-up sale in the works. We'll share more if and when those plans come together.
One last favour
If Plant Faced has ever meant something to you, there's one final thing you can do to help.
Share this news and/or our Instagram announcement posts with someone who might want to know about the sale.
Send it to a friend who has one of our old tees.
Tag someone who always wanted a Plant Faced hoodie.
Share the announcement.
And, of course, if there's something you've had your eye on, we'd absolutely love for you to give it a home.
For us, this isn't just about clearing a warehouse.
It's about seeing the last pieces of Plant Faced out in the world, being worn and loved, rather than sitting on a shelf somewhere.
And honestly, that's a pretty nice way for it to end.
Thank you for ten amazing years.
Thank you for believing in the message.
Thank you for wearing it.
Thank you for being part of Plant Faced.
Peace & Plants.
